David Perez Literary Translator English Translation

I translate exclusively from English into French.

My Blog: www.fromenglishtofrench.blogspot.com

I am fascinated by gothic literature and Romantic poetry, especially if it comes from the perfidious Albion. Of course, I do not confine to the Channel, American literature interested too, Lovecraft and Poe are among my favorite authors.
My other favorite subject is music, especially Metal, and I find pleasure in literature to correlate the Gothic-romantic and Metal. This led me to write my DEA Cradle Of Filth, English band heavily influenced by the literature but also by the dark horror films. My study is a translation of a selection of eight texts and a literary analysis and translation studies.

Translation is a way for me to meet my main interests: music, literature, film and my passion for the English language.

I also have a penchant for video games that try to maintain control of my life. But occasionally, a part of GTA allows me to unpack to re-attack with a vengeance.

Afin de mieux cerner ma personnalité, voici une liste représentative mais non exhaustive de mes goûts :

Musique
Ulver, Arcturus, My Dying Bride, Anathema, Cradle Of Filth, Emperor, Opeth, Omnium Gatherum, The Black Dahlia Murder, Empyrium..

Littérature

John William Waterhouse, Arnold Boecklin, William Turner, Salvador Dali, Edmund Blair Leighton, John Everett Millais, Edward Burne-Jones, Henry Wallis ...

Can I Take Ativan With Clonidine

Danièle Laruelle

Contact: danakame (AT) gmail (DOT) com

Danièle Laruelle defines itself readily as a professional dilettante.

For ten years she has lived in England where she was a farmer, a cook and nanny rock band teacher in high school, then at the University of London and of Fine Arts, photographer theater and amateur artist.

Upon his return to France, she worked for the journal Nature Savage Land, produced and presented programs on France Musique for ten years, translated and wrote heaps of record sleeves, lined with numerous interviews, written a few books as "negro" ( The Nanny garden plants , Winged Monkey ) or author ( Cats by Yann Arthus Bertrand), then s is installed in Britain, where she focuses on the translation of Native American authors (Scott Momaday, Linda Hogan, Adrian Louis, LeAnne Howe), popular novels of the sentimental female from the Gothic through the thriller, and, more recently, books for youth ( Children of the Sun Scott Momaday Skyshatter and Darkwing by Kenneth Oppel, Inventing Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick , Brisingr by Christopher Paolini).

Historically, she likes the stories, hear, telling them, and play with language, which probably predisposed to translate fiction. Sensitive to the music she listens to the texts, their internal rhythms, works on time, at the ear ... written as doubling or when it serves as an interpreter in public "its authors."

To know everything or almost here!

Having had an early passion for Britain and its culture, the new currents of its music, literature and that of Anglo-Saxon countries in general, whether conventional or police, I became an English teacher. I also began to translate for me or for friends who I wanted to share my taste of this culture. And as I found myself facing a very short time to several different methods and sometimes even contradictory, I am interested in the teaching of foreign language learning.

Thus, in a time where I felt the need to recharge my batteries, I landed by chance in Portugal after taking a break. I found a house where I sat, and I wanted to learn the language, this time on the job ", without ever opening or grammar or dictionary. After ten years - I worked on site to grow flowers that I sold on the market as a dried flower - I realized I was speaking, of course, that I had same vocabulary entirely consistent, but I was still unable to read and write, as indeed most people around me.

So I, to complete my training, prepared a master of Portuguese after returning to France and back on my career as a teacher. I chose for my TER translating a classic text of Portuguese literature, halfway between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, (we do not know the date of writing, only one of the first edition, but there manuscripts much earlier) that intrigued me, because I thought to find the trail of Occitan troubadours, quotes, and also "tricks" of writing reminiscent of trobar clus techniques of employing a system of codes and the ad entendentz, insiders. This translation was accompanied by an attempt to interpret the text, which was exciting for me. (You can find this work http://www.idiocentrism.com/ribeiro2.htm, the site of another bit of Portuguese literature, John Emerson, an American from Cleveland.

To publish then this "novel" so enigmatic was not an easy task, but after few years, the editions Phoebus agreed to get involved. That's how I started my career as a translator ...

Translations published

Menina e Moça (Phoebus 2003), an early "novels "Portuguese prose, published in Ferrara in 1554, out of the enigmatic poet Bernardim Ribeiro. First translation into a foreign language.

"... the amateur will find here a translation elegant, perfectly controlled, making it crystal clear text, the image of these flowing rivers that run like tears, this melody tirelessly as fundamental tone of life Cioran speaks about the melancholy, which is the poignant tone of the work. " (Pierre Rivas, Fortnight Literary , 1 / 15 April 2003)

Grand Theater: The annual creation was entrusted to the talented composer Xavier Dayer geenvois whose monodrama Memoirs of a sad girl , adapted from the Portuguese translation of the book Bernardim Ribeiro, share Der Cornet evening with Frank Martin. ( Tribune de Geneve , May 3, 2004)

Bestiary unfinished , Anno Domini 1348 (Phoebus, 2003), first novel by a contemporary writer, Sérgio Luis de Carvalho, also a medievalist.

(Nominated for the Amphi attributed to both the author at the translator, 2003)

"... while this book is bathed in a light infinitely gentle, infinitely sad [...] it inspires the author of Tearing pages, served with a tasty translation, and it is ultimately a great love story that leaves us, its ausoir life, the scrivener plague. "(John Soublin, Book World , June 25, 2004)

first novel of a young singer, Dulce Maria Cardoso (Phoebus 2004) entitled Campo de Sangue , The Field of Blood, who rummages through the depths of a sick soul in a very personal style.

"Marie written a sweet and terrible magnificent work, dark, cold as a nuclear winter, promoting a healthy self-examination. "(Dominique Aussenac, The registration number of the angels , No. 62)

(Métailié, 2006) A novel somewhat unclassifiable and exotic, a satirical tale of an author of Angola, whose narrator is a gecko.

"... the translation of this book to various records is happy, she flows like a spring. However, the difficult in this type of fiction is the choice of a range capable of not slipping into the wrong note. "(Claude Michel Cluny, literary magazine, April 2006)

José Eduardo Agualusa received XII Prices Independent foreign fiction (assigned by the British daily The Independent, in collaboration with the Arts Council of the United Kingdom) for his novel O Vendedor of Passados (The merchant ago) . (01/05/2007 The Letter ed. Métailié)

Second novel Dulce Maria Cardoso ( Os meus sentimentos) - Spirit peninsulas, 2006. Even more terrible than the first.

"... the poorly-named" Dulce Maria Cardoso, which is the second album, excellently translated by Cécile Lombard itself perversely loaded the mule. [...] in final countdown narrative, the story of a miserable failed life comes [...] sad music that finally subsided but a testament to the affection felt by the novelist for these poor puppets she stirred near the ear of the reader. (Maurice Mourier The fifteen literary , 1 / 15 Nov. 2006)

Third novel by the poet Nuno Judice (La Difference, 2006) rather a reflection on fiction in the form of whodunit.

"The novel does not present any as a thriller, but it is the last straw. A murder has been committed. The narrator knows nothing. It no index. But this is not a reason not to interpret the event. [...] But why do you become a detective? Novelist and why? "(Vincent Lindon, Liberation , September 21, 2006)

(An excerpt of my translation of this novel was published in the journal
Century 21 May 2005.)

An excerpt of my resume online:

Some translations published ...

Dianne Emley, An echo in the night (France Loisirs)

The youngest ... A great American crime novel, an unpublished author in France. I begin the next series in September.

David Baldacci The Camel Club (Belfond)

An excellent thriller against the backdrop of terrorism, espionage and conspiracy large. The plot is very well put together - One of those novels that does not let more once it has opened ...

[...] An excellent thriller set in the mechanical millimeter, whose heroes amortized change us a bit of endless and spirited young secret agents. (Alexis Liebaert - Marianne)

David Baldacci PrimeTime Crime (Belfond)

The translation of which I am most proud of at the moment. I have the chance to translate this excellent crime writer, I already knew and liked before.

A novel in which one finds the very hot Miss Hildegarde Withers insitutrice retired sleuth and his hours ...

Stuart Palmer dirty tricks in Hollywood (10/18)

An American author of the years 40-50. Plots to Agatha Christie, more caustic and less stuffy. I just close the translation of the next.

Anne Perry Slave the past (10/18)

star, the new queen of crime. Legions of fans around the world. Intrigues that take place in Victorian England, roughly well-crafted ...
next ...

Valley McDermid The Killer Shadow (The Mask / I Lu)

An excellent thriller very dense 600 pages that I have translated in 2 ½ months. Hard drive, but it was worth it ...

Lynda LaPlante, Royal Flush (The Mask)

A case history of the century in the English gentry ... This man also gave me a headache.

By the way ...

I am a graduate of the Master Pro II Translation Literary Paris 7

More importantly, I created a site devoted the literary translation .

I could not do without ...

Music: electro, hip-hop, rock, jazz, classical and contemporary music - before turning to the translation I wanted to be a guitar hero, a "rock superstar" ...
I caught up by cultivating the look ... Some recommendations
labels to listen: Mush Records, Anticon, DefJux, Ninja Tunes, Lex Records - the excellent electro hip-hop that moves the head. My
soundtrack every day: The Roots, Themselves, Amon Tobin, Radiohead, Buck 65, DJ Shadow, Deftones, Sage Francis, John Coltrane, Jonas Hellborg, Jeff Buckley, Steve Reich, Alias, Sole, Aesop Rock, The White Stripes, Steve Coleman, RJD2, Bjork, Miles Davis and hundreds of others.

literature, especially American, especially mystery novels. Some authors: John Cheever, James Ellroy, Michael Connelly, Charles Bukowsky, Mark Twain, Norman Mailer, David Baldacci, TC Boyle, Edward Bunker, John Fante, Richard Wright ...
And French: Joseph Kessel, Jean Giono, Martin du Gard, Maupassant, nothing very contemporary and hand Echenoz Gailly ... Fleece: Mauritius Dantec, Jean-Claude Izzo, Didier Daeninckx ... as Black.

History in general, but again, mostly American: right now, I enjoy reading "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. Noam Chomsky are all also recommend ...

Press : thanks to the Internet, access to all French and English newspapers is incredibly easy. My favorites: New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Boston Globe, Herald Tribune, Le Monde, Liberation, Slate Magazine, USA Today, Guardian Unlimited.

Computing: The Internet has become a working tool essential for me (Google, Grand terminology dictionary, Merriam-Webster Online Bartleby.com ...), my dictionaries on CD-ROM make me win a lot of time, and I'm close to the free software world. So take a look at this website framasoft.org, and if you do not know that Internet Explorer, try Firefox. The son RSS allows me to see at a glance the latest headlines of all newspapers cited above, including through the program Netvibes ... And the site of literary translation I created, which allows me to combine all my passions.

Cinema: a soft spot for black films, Jarmusch, Kubrick, Tim Burton Tarantino and ... Titles: Animal Factory, The Yards, Reservoir Dogs, Heat, Barry Lyndon, The Pianist ... the list is of course too long.
Otherwise, American series such as Six Feet Under, The Shield, 24 Lost, Nip / Tuck and Desperate Housewives.

Video games: sometimes you have to empty your head ... For that, nothing like a good Halo or Splinter Cell!
