Did Andy Sixx Ever Have His Nose Pierced

More info on the future vSphere 5

Seen on Virtuanews:
An excellent article by fellow American searchserverVirtualization released today lifts the veil on some features of the next version of VMware vSphere, version 5, which should be available in the second half of 2011. The roadmap would indeed have been presented at the conference Partner Exchange held this week Orlando (U.S.). According to the article's author Colin Steele vSphere 5 should be announced before next VMworld. Likely, if VMware locks onto the same model output for the 4.1 release, which was announced last July.

Storage Distributed Resource Scheduler
vSphere 5 should include Storage Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS for the equivalent of storage), apparently demanded by customers, based on Storage VMotion to perform automatic load balancing if one disks is overloaded. Storage DRS should also help define the "pods" of storage (disk groups) with automatic load balancing storage, fairly new concept, based on capacity requirements. Objective: To improve storage utilization, and optimize virtual machines as needed. According to the article, experts see this feature in a plus for virtual infrastructures.

Asynchronous Replication "host based" native

Another feature announced is HBR, "host based replication" (replication server to server) for SRM (Site Recovery Manager). It seeks companies that would not use replication-based arrays, or using systems heterogeneous storage on different sites. This is asynchronous replication. This feature should appeal to small structures, which can not implement business recovery plan with expensive storage arrays. Clearly, VMware comes with this feature still encroach on the beds of some of its partners, like Double-Take, Falconstor, Datacore or Quest (notably with the acquisition of BakBone)
In fact, the integration of HBR was already known since September At the last VMworld. David Shyu, solution architect at Falconstor, had even in a post, welcomed the initiative of having VMware in producing its own replication solution over the WAN. "This is great news because it democratized SRM for all. SRM is no longer a luxury. " According to him, HBR should allow restoring a virtual machine with an RPO of 15 minutes. This ability to move a virtual machine from any storage to another should also have a positive effect on the message Cloud.

Control i / o network

announced last feature: the control input / output network for virtual machines, which will add to the quality of services for workloads, according to their criticality. This feature should be useful in the case of virtual infrastructure a good size.

According to Colin, VMware has already given some clues for the next release, expected in 2012 as the integration of SLAs (essential for the establishment of Cloud Computing solution), and integration of functionality vMotion Long distance (long distance VMotion), a feature that has already been demonstrated in a VMworld in partnership with Cisco. They had indeed made a demonstration on a few tens of kilometers.

It's a safe bet that none will vSphere 5 not there and that other multiple features should be incorporated. The suspense will remain intense few months ... At this

Partner Exchange, VMware has also announced a new feature, vCloud Connector, which should enrich vCloud Director, providing the ability to move virtual machines between Public and private clouds. vCloud Director is a key element in the implementation of Clouds based VMware. But some "early adopters" wait impatiently for the release of a version 2, more accomplished, they would actually build Clouds efficient hybrid. However, BlueLock, Verizon and Colt are already users.
