vSphere ready for implementation Cloud

Seen on Magita by Valery Marchive: VMware opens the door to the clouds with vSphere hybrids. February 10, 2011 (08:33)

VMware announced officially vCloud Connector, a free plug-in for vSphere which should simplify the implementation of hybrid clouds.

vCloud Connector allows users to vSphere infrastructure seamlessly migrate their virtual machines between public and private clouds. A module that complements vCloud Director: one, formerly codenamed "Project Redwood" ensures the provisioning and management of private and public clouds. Sylvain Sioux, CTO of VMware France, we explained at the launch of vCloud Director, this solution creates pools of virtual resources - virtual machines, network (with internal IPv4 addressing plan), and storage - as much mini computer centers with virtual, each of its administrative policies, level of service and pricing. Better, within the same group, it is possible to create vApp, a set of dedicated virtual machines, for example, production of a particular service. With, again, a plan specific internal IP address and an exhibition, outside of only the TCP / UDP ports required for their exploitation of the service product, with the added bonus of a layer of translation of IP addresses.

A layer of abstraction

For its part, vCloud Connector must offer a vision of the highest level, bringing together all the virtual machines without distinguishing those that work in the private cloud of those that run on an infrastructure public cloud. In short, we are talking about is a level of abstraction. And VMware, it's the whole point, "as administrator vSphere, your job is to make sure the service is provided by your Cloud, whatever he is through internal or external resources, "says the editor. However, although vCloud Connector allows automatic transfer of virtual machines in a private cloud to cloud public and vice versa. Well, almost.

For as VMware said, "it's not VMotion long distance", ie transfer of virtual machines in operation: it is switching between copies of VMs in the cloud and in the private public cloud.
